The Wheel of Time, Amazon Studios’ forthcoming television adaptation of Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy series, will go into production starting in September 2019, according to the trade publication Production Weekly. Wheel of Time fan site The Daily Trolloc acquired a sample issue of the weekly publication from December 20, 2018, which lists the series among over a hundred other projects currently in development. Another notable detail is the location: the series will shoot at least in part in Prague, Czech Republic.

The listing (above) also includes the official series description, first shared when Amazon Studios ordered the series in late 2018:
The fantasy epic is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine believes that one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it. The series draws on numerous elements of European and Asian culture and philosophy, most notably the cyclical nature of time found in Buddhism and Hinduism.
Producers include Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon from Red Eagle Entertainment; Ted Field and Mike Weber from Radar Pictures; Darren Lemke; and Harriet McDougal, Jordan’s editor and wife. Rafe Judkins serves as executive producer and showrunner.
Looks promising; more Thrones-like than Shanarra-like (I hope).
If you squint, Larry Mondragon looks like “Lan Mandragoran.”
This may have already been brought up after the whole Winter Dragon debacle, but it made me blink this time.
It’s actually happening! :) Now…awaiting casting news with bated breath.
@2 Lan’s long-lost cousin Larry the Producer
Great! We should start hearing casting news within a couple of months, then.
Interesting that they were very carefully gender neutral in their description of the Dragon Reborn. There’s no way they’re going to gender switch it…is there? I mean, the description also said only women can use the power. So…just seems weird.
Does “production” mean all the actors have been selected and they are starting to film or what?
@6 Probably just did it to keep the suspense. While it’s obvious almost immediately, the reveal isn’t formally made until the end of book 1.
@9 – We know from the very beginning that the DR is a male who will channel saidin. There’s no suspense involving Egwene or Nynaeve; just with Rand, Perrin, or Mat. I seriously doubt that they will alter the very foundation of the series (male half tainted, DR could possibly go mad and break the world again). I just found it odd that it was carefully gender neutral, as that’s not even a mystery but an essential foundation of the series.
Maisie Williams would make the perfect Egwene al’Vere in age, size and outlook.
Oh no I just realized that I have knowingly been pronouncing many of the words and character names wrong and have been able to ignore the truth until now. Once everything is pronounced differently on tv I may have to switch the way I say things in my head.
Once again it is proven: Narg smart.
I see Maisie Williams as Min
Christina Hendricks for Graendal!
@7: Production is the physical shooting process. Casting, design, set construction, pre-viz etc are all part of pre-production; visual effects, music and editing are all post-production.
Casting is normally done over a period of several months, ending either just before or during shooting. I wouldn’t expect any casting announcements until close to production starting, probably around summer.
Maisie Williams is 5 years older than Egwene and not really the right fit for the character. She might pull Min off, but I think after ten years working on one fantasy show she might balk at another decade in another one, especially with Hollywood calling.
Also, worth looking at the other shows on the list. The live action Cowboy Bebop starts shooting in April and The Nevers (Joss Whedon’s new show) in June.
Dang! The Weekly Wheel News was scooped again!
Veto to reusing any game of thrones actors. Strong preference for complete unknowns!
Amy Acker for Lanfear or Moghedien
I vote for unknowns as well, that way I can blame the actor for my mispronunciation of their character names… XD
I sincerely hope they stick to the plot of the books as much as possible. Far down the road, when the slog happens, I can see some things getting edited or cut short, but please, please let them stay true to the source material for as long as possible. They won’t do a better job of it than Robert Jordan did
Just please, don’t let it be like this one
Dovie’andi se tovya sagain. Or as Lando says in Star Wars: Here goes nothing. I’ll hope for the best and plan for the worst.
I hope the series gets all the funding needed for an amazing production of the best epic novel our life times!
I know it will not come for a long time, but I am dying to see the battle of Dumai’s Wells!
It’s actually getting real! Please don’t mess it up!
Another vote for new and unknown faces from me.
Also, there is a good chance I might be in Prague for a week in the end of August. Why oh why do they start right AFTER that?!
6. Austin
Obviously, this is setup for a non-binary, genderqueer Dragon. It’s 2019, after all.
People wringing their hands over the gender neutral series description need to calm down and relax. This series is going to be introduced to a much larger audience than the fans of the novels, so the entire world and characters will be new and mysterious. One of the most intriguing aspects of these books are the mysteries of the world and the characters. I assume they will play that up in the reveal of the dragon reborn. Actually, upon rereading Eye of the World I was surprised that RJ didn’t keep that secret longer than he did. Though it wasn’t formally announced until near the end of the book it was quite obvious to me early on that Rand was the Dragon Reborn.
@27
I know you’re joking, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the show alter the gender dynamics of the world/magic system a little bit, possibly even leaving space for queer(er) interpretations.
@28
I expect the show will try to keep the secret far, far longer. That’s how TV works generally, and genre audiences are both more knowledgeable of fantasy tropes and eager to have them subverted these days. The show exists in a world where WoT was written and very influential; Eye of the World, of course, was not.
Gulp.
Here’s hoping they cast Moiraine well.
Also, I hope they go light on CGI. CGI trollocs would be silly.
@29:
I agree with you. There’s no reason we even need to know what Moiraine was searching for in the Two Rivers early in the show. If they don’t start with the Prologue, and don’t have the epigraphs, we are only introduced to the concept of the Dragon and the Dragon Reborn through Fain’s talk of False Dragons. Its easy to intuit what Moiraine is searching for, but many people won’t.
Without being in Rand’s POV, it won’t be obvious that he is the main character to start out. He has no agency in the first half of the book, really until they get to the Eye of the World. Only Egwene and Nynaeve show any agency early in the books. Rand, Mat and Perrin are all either reacting to attacks, or following Moiraine’s lead.
Without being in Rand and Perrin’s head, those scenes will play out much differently on screen, at least until the party separates. They’ll just be along for the ride.
I wish I could get excited about this, I do. The wheel of Time series is what got me started in the fantasy genre. Everything I’ve read about what they are going to do with the show leads me to believe that it’s going to be barely recognizable to the books.
Color me apprehensive.
I like that the Wheel of Time story line has been fleshed out pretty well from backstory to end. They can even take some of the 15 books and condense them really and also the flowery verbose prose of Robert Jordans books are the real length of the series not the story itself…. so 15 books are closer to properly 8-10 books really for the story itself.
That’s a solid 7 to 8 seasons of good solid real world story content to draw from without embellishing it all. I do hope they do a min of 10 to 13 episodes instead of the to 8 to 10 episodes GOT did.
He details everything for the conceptual artist and production engineers to use for set and scene designs so much…it should be a no brainer for them
Cant wait!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let the screenplay follow the books!! Begin with the prologue if you must, but please don’t ruin the story! Research carefully to cast the characters, be assiduous in following the original story.
@27
I really hope not. Wheel of Time is what got me into reading and I’m really hoping to see the world/story/characters I love be brought to visual media. I understand the need for representation and all that, but I really don’t want I really don’t want to see this story hijacked to advance a particular political agenda (even if it is an agenda I agree with).
WoT holds a special place in my heart and every fantasy book I ever read will always be held to the standard that the WoT set (and nothing will ever come close to the greatness that is the WoT). I hope the producers understand the passion of the WoT fan base and they dont make so many alterations that it destroys what we love about the series. The story Jordan created is what we want to see played out on screen, NOT the writers’ adaptations of what Jordan wrote!
@37 I would suggest adjusting your expectations. There is no way to move a story from book to screen without changing it.
The question is how changed and what changed.
I am thrilled for this show to be moving forward. But please, I beg that they keep it pg13 or family friendly. I want to share my favorite fantasy with my kids.
@40
Your kids can totally watch it.*
* Some waiting may be required
As much as I would love to see this series, I have to stay hesitant. After the embarrasement of the legend of the Seeker TV series based on Terry Goodkind’s series The Sword of Truth where I was expecting a lot but was totally disappointed at the end of the first season. (I didn’t even watch the second season that is how turned off I was to the show)
@1 I wouldn’t mind it if they made a tad like the Shannara TV series. Despite it not exactly following the books (unfortunately I am somewhere in middle of first season lol) I was still impressed with it even with the extra stuff they added in the series.
So again I am gonna be hesitant at first and develop a wait and watch attitude before deciding if I will be excited for it.
I really hope they get this right I want to see this being great like Lord of the Rings style!!
If y’all make this as bad as MTV did shannarra we’ll burn The studio to the ground. This is fantasy medevial themed not freakin post apocalyptic. Also Nome of the characters are queer. Don’t be switching that up. I’ve been waiting close to 30 years for this. Rand gets bound to four separate Women he’s obviously not gay…
I really hope they stick to the core magic system of the books and don’t alter it for a political/social agenda. The constraints of a magic system is what makes a character’s ingenuity so impressive, and TV shows have a tendency to make the more hard magical systems seem like soft systems.
I think it would be great if they used unknown actors, just please, please, PLEASE get the right actress for Egwene.
(oops, comment accidentally got half-deleted)
“Also Nome of the characters are queer.”
oh honey, Siuan and Moiraine undeniably banged, and it’s strongly implied that so did Aviendha and Elayne.
I’d say i’m sorry to disappoint, but I’m not even a little bit.
@47 – Wait, what? Aviendha and Elayne? I don’t think so. I think I would remember that!
Eliza Dushku would be great for Moiraine
@44
I don’t think anyone is suggesting Rand ought to be rewritten as gay, just that the very real queer (sub)text in the world could and perhaps should be maintained and highlighted. As poster 47 noted, and as fans have written and speculated on for years, this would not be an invention on the part of TV writers.
Furthermore, all art/entertainment is political–a massive epic fantasy that deals heavily in gender dynamics certainly is. No writer could keep politics out of this world; it’s just a question of what kind of politics we want to see validated.
Eva Green as Lanfear.
I am more interested to see how they handle the dynamic of fate vs. free will. Rand was one of the most powerful Ta’veren ever, with Mat and Perrin not far behind him. I have to wonder if they will touch on the warping of the Pattern that happened in later books. I also wonder how much detail they will go into in explaining how Saidin/Saidar is woven and the differences between them.
There are so many possibilities for some great character interactions in this series.
Lan and Nynaeve
Moiraine and Thom
The entirety of the Aiel
Perrin and Faile
Rhaurc and Rand
Mat and the Band of the Red Hand
Egwene and Elayne
Rand and Min
And for those who think the Game of Thrones is dangerous, the Game of Houses is even more treacherous and darker.
The forsaken also have a chance to be truly terrifying. Ishamael, Lanfear, Moghedien, Sammael. All major players in the story and if done right could be more frightening than any villians in any other fantasy series before.
Part of me wants them to start with the Prologue from the Eye of the World, however, I will understand if they do not. In fact, it could be used at a later date as a sort of dream/vision for Rand that cements his revelation as Dragon Reborn.
Lastly: I have to wonder if the show runners understand that regardless of gender roles, who channels what, and questions of sexuality, the greatest works came about when men and women worked together.
In my mind, I’ve always seen (and heard) Michael Dorn as Lan. The mannerisms are so similar to his (Dorn’s) portrayal of Lt. Warf in Star Trek TNG.
Sam Heughan as Rand! It’s uncanny in my mind, but he might be too old, more like Rand after all the strife of the books had worn him out.
Of course there were gay people in the WoT world. Remember pillow friends!?
should get Brandon Sanderson involved toonwince he knows the source material and could probably make suggestions where cuts make sense. Plus then maybe he could get some damn pub and we get a mistborn series next
I bet this will be like the Lord of the Rings: way better on screen than in the books. I hope Sanderson gets involved.
Just tell me it will go anywhere but Amazon TV. Would like to see it on either paid channel or Terrestial like FX, BBCAmerica or another like that. Ovation would be cool also
Am I the only person who thinks Adrian Paul would be the perfect Lan?
Honestly, I’d think “A New Spring” would not be a horrible place to start the series. The prologue itself seems for fit for a revelation of sorts, maybe a tale told by Moiraine to the group as they travel away from The Two Rivers.
As far as the sexuality of characters goes, Jordan hinted at, and flat out said in a couple of cases how characters looked at relationships without beating the reader over the head with it. In some cases it was necessary to reveal how people would interact with the larger storyline. Elaida for one, is a Red, and very definitely coming down on the side of FF relationships. One of the borderlords in the later books is portrayed as “preferring men.” While the main characters all seem to be straight, you definitely get a sense that many, are comfortable with, and normalized with at the minimum, a polyamorous way of looking at the world. The Aiel in particular seem to be comfortable with this concept. I really hope they get this right though, beyond gender politics… the reason that I was fascinated by this story from the very beginning(Think teenager when I read the first book) all the way through to the end(reading the last book at the age of 40) was that there are so many hints to our own history and peoples, all mixed up and scrambled around, Jordan, was an historian. “Alea Iacta Est.” The die is cast. -Julius Caesar crossing the Rubicon. “Dovie’andi se tovya sagain” It’s time to toss the dice. -Mat Cauthon looking to get out of stuff. We see everything from Renaissance Europe, to classical Asian civilization, almost every empire in world history all jumbled together in a mélange of brilliant, compelling, storytelling. If it is done right, it’s going to blow GOT out of the water. I was just a geeky kid reading fantasy growing up, and I can’t even explain how much seeing the stories I loved making it to the screen gets me off. But when done poorly, or wrongly, it breaks my heart.
Gillian Anderson for Moiraine!
Am I the only one that is a bit annoyed that they are turning the story of Rand into the story of Moiraine? I think we’ll be missing out on some important POV or building for his character. Also, the character of Moiraine in the books was so shrouded in mystery most of the time that it’s going to be more difficult to obfuscate with her as the primary focus.
Anyone else worried that they will find out that they have been mispronouncing a word in their head for the last 30 years? For example if ‘Aes Sedai’ or ‘Amyrlin’ or ‘Egwene’ or ‘Camlyn’ doesn’t sound the way I have read them since 1991 it is going to drive me nuts! OK, seriously though can we make this show dark and mysterious and copy HBO’s take on fantasy?
Jordan’s wife is one of the producers. I expect that she will work hard to keep as much of the material as it was written. I’m looking forward to seeing what they do.
@22…Just watched that clip and didn’t like it! It looked too modern, building and clothing wise! Like you, I hope this new one will be lots better.
@61 Adrian Paul as Lan
Is he craggy enough? I think someone like a slightly younger Lance Henrickson would be about right. Unfortunately, it’s about 15 years too late for that casting.
I have to admit that I almost broke myself trying to finish these books! It’s been years ago I quit, don’t even remember which one did it (#6? #18? #42??) but enough was enough, I just couldn’t care anymore.. Remembering that defeat, I don’t have a good feeling for a TV show. There’s no way they can tell this story in less than 10 years!
This looks like it’s going to be interesting.
I think they mean widow?
Really looking forward to this , and to the first movie / TV adaptation of the Stormlight Archive :)
@73 You have to keep in mind that while the technology isn’t the same as ours, it was canonically, at the end of a high technology era. High tech, as powered by the One Power, rather than electricity. It was the patching of the bore that caused the tainting of Saidin, leading to the madness of the men wielding the One Power, and the end of said high tech world.
As for casting…The only characters I’ve got a clear idea of are Lan, and Perrin. I think that Ron Perlman would be able to pull it off. Jason Momoa might be a decent choice for Perrin.
The showrunner Rafe Judkins is a huge WOT fan so i’d say he will stay close enough to the source material, plus Harriot will keep him in line. As said before, would love to see Sanderson involved and get a taste for TV so we can get that Mistborn series too and as said before his editing of the material so as not to miss info for later would be invaluable.
As for the dragon reveal you can very easily hide it and have people guess which one of the boys it is till the very end.
The Moiraine POV should work best, if we did the boys POV like in the books Rand stands out too much and too easy to guess. There will be plenty of time to shift focus to him later.
Adrian Paul would make a better Elyas in my opinion.
Awesome! Now I just really hope Bryan Cranston is the Dragon. I would love to hear him running around ranting, and terrorizing Rand.
I’ve always imagined the WoT is too large, too complex for a TV series . It would take 20 series of 25 episodes to come close to including enough detail .Hopefully they won’t chop too much out.
Light help us all.
6. Austin, have you read Wheel of Time novels? I think they will follow the books very close since Robert Jorden’s wife is Executive Producer. I don’t see this ending up like that disaster Shannara Chronicles debacle I am looking forward to this series now that Game of Thrones is leaving.
@6 Austin, they meant that only women can use the power because it drives men crazy and then they must be gentled. No man would willingly admit to using the power and thus, “epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it.”
To all those saying it can’t be done – please come on! – GoT is the perfect example that you can bring an Epic Fantasy story to the small screen…the only requirements: that the talent and money are abundant. Jordan’s wife won’t allow this to get effed up – no way no how!
Very exciting – things are really happening :)
I also hope for mostly unknowns – we got so many cool actors/actresses out of stuff like Game of Thrones, it will be cool to get another promising crop.
Rand = Zack Ward
Min = Bryce Dallas Howard
Elayne = Jennifer Connelly
Perrin = Vin Diesel
Matt = Corey Feldman
Egwene = Elisha Cuthbert
Nynaeve = Georgie Parker
Lan = Taylor Kitsch
Casting done!
I can’t wait to finally see this on set!
I strongly believe that Wheel of time will surpass fire and ice!
I wish i could be a part of this intense movie series!
Its gonna be a block amd rock busters!
My dream cast would look like
Moiraine: Rachel Weisz
Nynaeve: Winona Ryder
Egwene: Kristin Kreuk
Matt: Rodrigo Santoro
Rand: Tom Hardy
Perrin: Kit Harrington
really hope it stays true to the books or adapted the best they can.
I wholeheartedly disagree that it needs to be gritty, vulgar, debaucherous like GoT. My 15 year old stepdaughter is really enjoying the books that I just introduced her to. There is no way in heck However, I would introduce her to Songs of Ice and Fire, print or TV.
Jordan was going for a more Tolkien like audience and I hope Amazon doesn’t taint it with their own creative ideas or agendas. If they stick to the books and thankfully, Jordan’s wife is an Executive producer, this has the potential of being the best fantasy series put to TV!🤠
I feel that Cathy Bates can pull off a dynamic Verin. The Brown, with a badass history, sitting atop her mount taking in everything and everyone with the gaze of a sparrow targeting a worm.
Like stated far above, Christina Hendricks could do Graendal.
Eva Green could do the dark and mysterious Lanfear.
Whoever they choose for each role has to have acting chops.
As, has been said before, the material is there to produce a series greater than Game of Thrones.
The amount of mystery, the proliferation of dark friends, who is safe to deal with, who is not. The amazing politics of the Aes Sedai, and then,
The Forsaken!
The Wheel of Time TV series – if done right – has the potential to be a worldwide phenomenon. Why not draw on that? The peoples and countries in the WoT world, in many cases, strongly resemble countries and cultures around the world. Why not cast characters from those countries? Here are a few of my suggestions:
Two Rivers = America
Andor = England
Cairhien = France
Tear = Spain (Certain that there are more than a few castles there that can double as the Stone of Tear!)
Illian = Greece (RJ has them speaking like pirates and the men looking like Amish, but there you go)
Murandy = Ireland
Arad Doman = Brazil
Shienar = Japan
Saldea = Mongolia
Malkier = Korea
Aiel = Beduin/North American native fusion set in the deserts of the Middle East?
Tarabon = ?
Kandor = ?
Arafel = ?
Amadicia = ?
Altara = ?
Ghealdan = ?
Suggestions?
@70 I believe that the glossary at the back of the books gave pronunciations for most if not all of the main characters. I know that Egwene is pronounced eh-GWIAN because it was my screen name way back in the day, and many people asked me how to pronounce it :) I am really looking forward to this series! I would prefer it to be cast with unknown actors, that way I won’t have any preconceived bias about any of them.
I’m so looking forward to this! Been longing ever for someone to do a tv series about WoT.
Really hope that they keep the story to the books and because Harriet is involved I’m not really worried. She did a great job choosing Brandon Sanderson and think this will be great as well!
I am excited about this as long as they get it right. Are we going to get a page by page retelling, certainly hope not. This story is twice the size of GOT and that has taken 8 years even with 2 major story lines cut out and a 3rd shredded. There are going to be Storyline’s cut out that is inevitable. One I can definitely live without is the Shaido after Dumai Wells, found the whole Perrin trying to save Faile tedious and has no real bearing on the finale. I can see the Seanchan Storyline heavily cut as well, Falme is a must but a lot of what happens after the 2nd Invasion is more about the future post the Last Battle. Don’t need the Sharans and possibly no Kin either.
Man, I’ve been reading and re-reading this since it started. The potential for a great series is there…and the potential for a disaster is there too. (Like the movie “Ender’s Game”.) The only story line I don’t want in was the Perrin/Faile chase stuff…it can be cut a lot. And I know some stuff must go…but I loved the pace of the books. It really covers a small length of time.
@89 and @91
Rand, Mat, Perrin and Egwene were all in their late Teens at the start of Eye of the World so basically all your Actors are far to old, Vin Diesel as Mat, seriously? No I think those 4, as well as Alaina,, Aviendha and Min will all be played by Newcommers. Nynaeve, Morraine and Lan we may see established Actors/Actresses
An interesting one is how they will portray the Aes Sedai, will they go for the Ageless look? If that is the case then we are going to look at 25-45yo Actresses only except for those who are Novices and Accepted.
This may surprise people but I think the Character that will be most important to get right will be Mat. Mat could easily become one of the most liked Characters on TV. He is a lovable Rogue a great Fighter, refuses to follow orders but ends up doing what they want anyway, The Women are always trying to change him but the more they try the more rebellious he becomes. The Actor will have to be a Comedian, smooth talker and great Fighter all in one.
I’m on my knees begging for this to work out, nearly every aspect from producers to companies involved makes it look like it’s about to be a damn trainwreck. Please don’t hurl this into another W*nter Dragon incident.
also @6 Women are the only ones that can use the one power safely, men go insane and are hunted to be gentled remember?
#80 Bryan Cranston would be perfect!!!
And may the Creator have mercy on us all!
The books are all finished. The 1st thing to do exactly right is the casting. Good casting for a medieval set fantasy: Game of Thrones. Bad casting for a medieval set fantasy: Legend of the Seeker and Warcraft. Please hire good classically trained actors and not kids from “Saved by the Bell”esque shows. If the casting is crap this show is doomed! Just hire whoever the producers of GoT hired to do their casting and you’re safe!
People keep talking about Maise Williams being Egwene or Min, while I do think Maise is pretty she is not beautiful as Min and Egwene are described in the books…. I picture Nyneave, Elayne, Egwene, Aviendha, Moraine and Min being strikingly beautiful woman. As cute as Maise Williams is, she isn’t strikingly beautiful.
interested but no Men can use magic as well, it is just dangerous and sometimes deadly
The story announces the ‘start of production.’ I may be wrong but I think that means those are just the ‘how are we going to do it’ and ‘how will we cut story line for time’. And when it does actually start shooting, it will need to be completely shot and editied, ready for air, before the first episode airs. I’m thinkin Fall of 2021. Just sayin’ Hope I’m wrong.
I have been excited about this for a while now, but I hope they don’t get it wrong. The book is not about Moiraine, its about the Dragon Reborn.
Interesting that Amazon says
but miss the one of King Arthur, Pendragon, once & future king. Especially since the Seanchan specifically say descendants of Artur Pendragon.
I can’t wait to see this adaptation. I don’t want a carbon copy if the series. When I read I’m automatically seeing it play out in my head anyways. For those hoping for a carbon copy if Jordan’s widow stick it out to the end of production then you’ll probably be happy with the end product. In the end it’s a form of entertainment and I’ll be happy with whatever adaptive viewpoint as long as its not a total screwup.
Yep, here we go – another complete screw-up of a good book (or 14) on account of what makes money. To address the initial post – the “real magic” isn’t only be only wielded by women – men can wield it too, they just go insane if they do… which is effectively a temporary technicality and of course later addressed. :) Further to – the Aes Sedai are not a “shadowy organisation”, but rather common household knowledge of an organisation who’s exponentially powerful members are able to wield the energy that drives the very fabric of the universe…
But let’s see how the series goes…
When can I expect first episode please tell me I started reading when I was just thirteen been waiting over twenty years now for this episode how much longer must I wait??
Eugene filming is from Sept 2019 to May 2020 so at best late 2020 but no date has been announced.
5 more cast members have been cast, google Wheel of Time TV series and it will show the 5 Actors, all relatively unknown.
Blood and bloody ashes I cant wait.. I hope they keep the humor of the books and the fight scenes. To Matrim Cauthon in all his glory he and Aviendha were my favorite characters and yes I hope they don’t screw it up like they did Terry Goodkind’s books. But Knowing Amazon I think they will keep it close to How GOT was… they do this right they will have a award winning series on their hands
Exciting news! At least they will be working from completed source material, so minimal excuses for making a mashup of it.
I’ve read the series in full 4 times. I always thought “Lionheart” by Of Monsters and Men would be the perfect song to throw in with Rand and Elayne at some point. “You’re a king and I’m a lionheart”
The understated brilliance of this entire series began the first moment that Robert Jordan decided to take it’s readers into the private thoughts of ALL it’s principal players (–including the bad guys). And beginning with “The Eye of The World”: This author introduced us to the possibility of being able to choose more than just one hero– to follow.
So each primary event that occurred throughout the entire “Wheel of Time” saga, owns the hallmark of becoming separately viewed through the eyes of the many individual characters who participated in them.
And anyone who tries to take us to this saga’s battles– without first allowing us to share the hopes of everyone fighting them: Is going to be missing out on the best lesson that it has to teach.
(Which is quite simply, this: “To determine the true shape of anything; Even our bravest heroes will always need to view it from more than just one side”).
Respectfully Yours,
Bruce R. Hammill
